Violent or abusive behaviour

Our Practice Staff are here to help you. Our aim is to be as polite and helpful as possible to all patients.

Staff will try to satisfy all patients’ requests and queries however with over 16,000 patients they are extremely busy and therefore it is essential that they work under protocols and policies.

The Partners of the Practice wish to make it absolutely clear to patients that violence and aggression – shouting, swearing and rudeness to any member of staff will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The practice has a zero tolerance policy with regards to violent and abusive patients. ANY patient who shows violence or abuse to any staff or other patient will be reported to their GP, written to and may be removed from the Practice list and in when necessary reported to the police.

What is deemed as unacceptable behaviour?

  • Violence of any kind
  • Recurrent loud or intrusive conversation or shouting in person or over the telephone
  • Threatening or abusive language involving swearing or offence remarks
  • Derogatory racial or sexual remarks
  • Malicious allegations relating to members of staff, other patients or visitors

This list is not exhaustive and will be reviewed regularly.

We appreciate that it is only a small minority of people who cause these types of problems, but we must make sure that everyone registered with the practice understands our policy.

Staff are here to help the general public not to be abused.
