To request an urgent appointment (Monday to Friday):
- phone us on 01323 735044 (College Road) or 01323 766358 (Ian Gow), Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm – Option 1
- visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm
When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.
We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.
Routine appointments
To request a routine appointment:
- use our online consultation service to tell us about your problem. This is open between 8am to 11am and you will get a response on the same day.

- visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm

Your appointment
However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:
- by phone
- face to face at the surgery
- on a video call
- by text or email
Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment
To cancel your appointment:
- using the online system: Complete the online form for Ian Gow Surgery or Complete the online form for College Road Surgery
- call 01323 735044 (College Road) or 01323 766358 (Ian Gow), Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm – Option 1
- reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message
If you need help when we are closed
GP’s Out of Hours Service
Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm excluding weekends and bank holidays.
- In an emergency or if you suspect a heart attack please hang up and redial 999.
- If you are calling between 6 & 6.30pm and you wish to speak to an emergency doctor please phone 0300 555 5252.
- If you are calling after 6.30pm and you have an urgent medical problem which cannot wait until the surgery re-opens, please hang up and dial 111.
NHS 111
NHS 111 can help if you have an urgent medical problem and you are not sure what to do.
To get help from NHS 111, you can:
- go to 111.nhs.uk (for people aged 5 and over only)
- call 111
NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you have difficulties communicating or hearing, you can:
- call 18001 111 on a text phone
- use the NHS 111 British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter service if you’re deaf and want to use the phone service
A&E
If you need help with your appointment
Please tell us:
- if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text
- if you need an interpreter
- if you have any other access or communication needs
Chaperones
If you feel you would like a chaperone present during your consultation or examination, please inform the Reception staff, Doctor or Nurse, who will happily arrange this for you.
All our Chaperones are trained and are DBS checked.
Home visits
If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.
To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible and where possible by 11.30am.
Please note that being housebound means you are unable to leave the house without special assistance or transport due to frailty or mobility problems, or because you are too ill to leave the house safely.
